74HC4040AP is a 12-stage binary ripple counter with 3 features. First it has a clock input (CP). then it also has an overriding asynchronous master reset input (MR). Lastly, twelve parallel outputs (Q0 to Q11). The counter advances on the HIGH-to-LOW transition of CP.

Features of 74HC4040 include;

  • Typical propagation delay: 16 ns.
  • Wide operating voltage range: 2-6V.
  • Low input current: 1 µA maximum.
  • Low quiescent current: 80 µA maximum.
  • Lastly it has an Output drive capability: 10 LS-TTL loads.

Applications Includes;

  • Frequency dividing circuits.
  • Also used in Time delay circuits.
  • Can also be used in Control counters.
