Description

BC557 is a PNP transistor. Used for amplification and switching purposes.  When used as a switch it is operated in the Saturation and Cut-Off Region. The transistor will act as an Open switch during Forward Bias and as a Closed switch during Reverse Bias. Therefore,  biasing can be achieved by supplying the required amount of current to the base pin.

When used as an Amplifier, the transistor operates in the Active Region. It amplifies power, voltage and current at 3 different configurations; Common emitter amplifier, Common collector amplifier or Common base amplifier.
